NASA said on Tuesday that the recently discovered 2024 -year -old asteroid has an opportunity of 3.1 percent in December 2032 – the highest probability for an influence of such a large space in the modern prognosis. However, there is no need to worry, since experts say that humanity is “not defenseless”.
There is a very little chance that an asteroid that can take out an entire city can beat Earth in less than eight years. But even if this asteroid races in our way, humanity can now defend itself against such a threat, experts say.
The likelihood that the recently discovered Asteroid will meet the earth on December 22, 2032 has now risen to 3.1 percent, NASA said on Tuesday, the highest probability for such an influence of such a large space in the modern prognosis.
“Not in panic,” Richard Moissl, head of the planetary defense office of the European space agency, told AFP.
If astronomers collect more data, the likelihood of a direct hit is expected to run up in general before quickly falling to zero.
But even in the unlikely case that the probability of up to 100 percent will increase, “we are not defenseless,” emphasized Moissl.
